Remember how I asked what the Cultural Alliance of Milwaukee does a few days back? Well, I got this response from their executive director, Christine Harris, over the weekend:
Happy to discuss with you, Jonathan, what we are doing and what we are
not doing currently - and why.
I am in and out of the office for the next month with lots of family
stuff that I need to take care of. Perhaps we can meet in August? I
prefer a face to face rather than respond to a blog because I think we
will both learn more that way.

Send me your questions for the Cultural Alliance. I'll ask them. However jarring they may be. Christine can take it. She's a tough broad.
Also in the meantime, I'm gonna contact some other cultural alliances around the country and find out what they do. Could knock a couple more questions into my head.
All this learning, it's so fun. I like to call that flearning!

This is not a smart alecky question but a sincere one. I would liketo know the difference between UPAF and the Cultural Alliance and what are some of this organization's goals. As a former resident of Milwaukee now living in Chicago AND former employee of both UPAF and singer for the Skylight I have a very real interest in the Milwaukee Arts community. I haven't taken the time to get up on the purpose of the Cultural Alliance. Since this is NOT a fundraising organization...who is paying the salaries of the staff? I look forward to learning more.
Will you include the Wisconsin Arts Allance in your study? This article (http://www.thedailypage.com/isthmus/article.php?article=23180) apparently attempts to explain their raison d'etre, but I'm just more confused.
By the way -- just discovered your blog this week and I'm really enjoying it. Keep up the great work.
Ask Christine what her salary is.
Ask her if she feels that she deserves it. No, really.
Ask Christine what she plans on doing with all the detailed financial information she wants all the arts groups to send her.
Ask Christine if she believes that sending out emails reccommending her "friends" for any "open positions" at MKE arts groups while the president of the organization that funds most of said arts groups was ethical.
Ask Christine if the monies currently used to fund the Cultural Alliance would be better used if equally distributed to all the arts groups in MKE.
Jonathan, I am happy to meet with you and anyone else interested in discussing the Cultural Alliance. Why don't we all meet face to face, and be direct and unfiltered in our communication?
When we arrange a date in August, we'll book space where all interested can attend for a dialogue.
