Seems like eons since I started this conversational thread, but now, once and for all, there is a clearly defined meet up scheduled with The Cultural Alliance of Milwaukee, where you can ask, "What is it The Cultural Alliance of Milwaukee does?"
Consider yourself invited. Now show up and don't shut up.
Anyone within reading distance of Artsy Schmartsy is welcome to attend. But you have to give me an RSVP by e-mailing me at jonathanwest@artsyschmartsy.com. In that e-mail tell me who you are, if you are coming alone with with a date or two, and throw any questions that you might have about The Cultural Alliance out to me just so I can get a vibe about what we're going to be yapping about.
Here's the 411 on the who, what, and where:
DATE: Monday, October 6
TIME: Noon-2 PM
PLACE: Marcus Center for The Performing Arts 4th Floor Rehearsal Hall A (enter from the Marcus Center Office entrance on State Street)
Who will be there?
Me, Christine Harris, Executive Director of The Cultural Alliance, a Board Member from the Alliance, and, I really, really, really, really hope, you.
How often do you get a chance to have an open door Q&A session with an agency that you find puzzling? This should be, as always, FLEARNING (that's FUN LEARNING, of course.)
E-mail me today at jonathanwest@artsyschmartsy.com with your response.
2 smart alecky remarks:
I wish I could be there. Ask her:
Is there is a cultural plan for the city of Milwaukee? For SE Wisconsin?
Is there any plan to update the Cultural Economic Impact Study of June 2007?
Do you currently have any meetings scheduled with political leaders to discuss arts and culture funding?
The last update to the news section of the website was August 20. Has nothing notable happened in arts and culture in the seven county region since then?
Has the Alliance and GMC completed the "regional cultural audit"? If so, what are the findings?
What follow up has been done to the geodemographic mapping survey done in 2006-20007?
What specific activities have you engaged in to "strengthen, advance, and represent the arts and culture sector"? (Minimum of one concrete example per verb.)
Resources listed on the website are all in the public domain or provided by other associations, etc. Does the CAGM produce any resources of its own?
Is the CAGM a registered nonprofit with the state of WI and the IRS? If so, are the annual federal tax filings (990's) available for review?
What % of expenses are spent on programs and member services delivery? What % on salaries, beneits and administration? Are in-kind donations, such as office space reported as expenses as a part of the reported % of administrative expenses?
What % of revenues are from memberships, individual (non-membership donations), corporations, foundations, and government sources?
In the four years since inception as a project of Spirit of Milwaukee, what have been the major successes of CAGM?
Does CAGM subscribe to any national codes regarding fundraising, transparency, accountability or ethical conduct?
Does CAGM have an ethics policy? An accountability code? A conflict of interest policy? A confidentiality policy? A anti-harrassment or anti-discrimination policy? Bylaws? A board handbook? A members handbook? A staff handbook? A gift acceptance policy? A strategic plan?
Does the CAGM hold an annual meeting of members?
What are the goals and measurements of success of the CAGM for the next 12 months? May we meet again at that time to review in a similarly public forum?
GREAR QUESTIONS! Thanks friend who I wish was there, too. That would be fun. These will be thrown into the mix.
